TOP 5 SKIN CARE MISTAKES that are aging you this summer

If you’re like most Orange Poppy clients, you’re probably happy to see the sun shining and are starting to enjoy the summer vibe. Unfortunately all too often the relaxed attitude of summer brings with it a laissez faire attitude towards everything - including personal care. And I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that summer is when you skin is most vulnerable to environmental aggressors, aging and breakouts.

Orange Poppy is here to help boost your summer mojo - just make sure you are not making any of these common skin care mistakes --

#5. Not drinking enough water

You’re probably thinking, yes, I’ve heard this one a million times before. You are also probably aware that you need the reminder, so here it is: Your skin is a living organ and water is essential for proper cellular function. Drinking water increases your metabolic rate, improves digestion, flushes toxins out of the body and is more important in wrinkle prevention than most topical creams. Want healthy, glowing skin? - Drink Water!

#4. Skipping your regular facial appointment

We understand, schedules are whacky, you can’t possibly plan ahead, you're traveling etc etc. I’m here to tell you, if you don’t prioritize you, no one will. Jump online or give us a call. The simple act of placing personal care appointments on the calendar is an epic shift toward making sure you don’t end another summer emotionally depleted and with skin that shows it.

#3. Getting lax with your normal skin care routine

Are you sensing a pattern here? Slow and steady wins the race and the face. Please do not be that client who comes in with dry, flaky, blemished skin and then tells me you used the hotel soap or Dr. Bronner’s camping soap to wash your face. Soap alters the natural pH of your skin so please pack your cleanser. We offer many products in travel sizes. Do you need a sample container to fill for the weekend? - just ask us we are happy to hook you up.

#2. Over exfoliating

You may find yourself tempted to make up for an inconsistent skin care routine by deep cleaning your face all at once. I’m here to remind you, your skin is a living organ not the tile in your shower. So please skip the harsh peels and rough scrubs (skin care’s equivalents of bleach and steel wool.) This is especially true during times of increased sun exposure. Need recommendations - ask us. Off the top of my head, try HydroPeptide’s 5x Power Peel. Yes, I know I just said to avoid harsh peels but these super convenient pads are not like average peels. They provide just the right amount of gentle exfoliation but will not destroy your protective barrier.

#1. Not using sunscreen - everyday!

Here is another one that most likely is no surprise. I don’t want to get involved in a discussion about vitamin D or any other objection you may have. I can assure you that the one thing dermatologists and estheticians agree on across the board is that daily use of sunscreen is the most important thing you can do for the health (skin cancer prevention) and appearance (prevention of pigmentation and wrinkles) of your skin. So make it a no-brainer part of your morning routine, at least for your face. We love HydroPeptide’s Solar Defense.
